Hidden Benefits of Physical Activity in Youth

1 CEC Webinar - Presented: April 19

The physical benefits of exercise in children and adolescents are well documented: increased muscular strength and endurance, improved aerobic capacity, and increase flexibility. What isn't so well known, yet is equally important, are the hidden benefits of physical activity. These benefits include improved self-efficacy and self-confidence, improved mental health status, and improved cognitive abilities (which can lead directly to improved academic performance)! The CDC estimates that this current generation will be the first generation ever to not outlive their parents. It's up to us to fix that!

Presenter: Dave Johnson, M.Ed., is a  Health and Physical Education teacher at Liberty High School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. A firm believer in the value and importance of physical activity in youth, Dave has created specialized curriculum options for high school students that have a passion for the health and fitness field. A W.I.T.S. faculty member since 2009, Dave has also developed and implemented several local interscholastic strength and conditioning programs in Pennsylvania high schools.
