Lead Clients Past Violent Crime In Their Communities - A Personal Trainer Special Certificate
Authored by Lisa McCrary-Tokes
On February 9, 2017, Reagan Delaney Tokes, a senior at The Ohio State University, who was just 33 days shy of turning twenty-two, and 3 months shy of graduating with a degree in psychology, tragically lost her life at the hands of Evil in a very horrific chain of events.
The individual responsible, was a recently released, previous violent offender, who while incarcerated had 52 infractions and should not have been released. Due to Ohio law at the time, he was released on an ankle monitor program, but was not properly monitored, was in violation of parole terms and committed six other assault crimes before kidnapping, robbing, raping and murdering Reagan. It was a crime that should never have occurred.
1.2 million violent crimes were committed in the United States in 2024, and statistics show that previous violent offenders, if released, are 63.8% likely to be repeat offenders. These statistics shine a glaring light on the need for ongoing training and exposure to situational awareness and safety/self-defense programs. While these types of training do not guarantee a positive outcome to a dangerous situation, especially when weapons are involved, they do however, increase your chances for survival. Some important tactics would include trusting your instincts, maintain a heightened awareness of situations and those around you, limit distractions when out in public, avoid isolation, plan your routes and know your exits, communicate your travel plans, have an emergency response plan, don’t overshare online, maintain physical fitness and learn basic self-defense techniques.
Rather than allow this tragic loss of life to become her legacy, the Reagan Delaney Tokes Memorial Foundation, www.rdtmf.com, was created to allow the radiance of Reagan’s spirit to still shine in this world and bless others. Rally For Reagan Events are held to raise proceeds, so the kind, generous, giving nature of Reagan would still positively impact the lives of others with academic scholarships along with safety/self-defense classes so Good will overcome Evil. The Tokes family has also diligently worked to change legislation in the state of Ohio which had a role in this tragic incident. The Reagan Tokes Law was implemented in December 2018 and the family is still pursuing ankle monitoring in real time and parole officer caseload reduction. This is not just an Ohio problem but a national problem that needs to be reformed.
W.I.T.S. and our Tim Rochford have join the Tokes family in offering positive steps to avoid and protect yourself with self-defense activities. CEC's are available with this catalog of activities that Tim leads. A portion of the proceeds from the courses will give to the Reagan Delaney Tokes Memorial Foundation to spearhead their national goals in reigning in the poorly designed laws for probation with violent criminals. Here is a listing for your smart participation and interest to help yourself and your community.
